What is the GraphAcademy Cup?
The GraphAcademy Cup is a seven-week community learning competition running alongside the 2026 FIFA World Cup, from June 1 to July 19, 2026. Learners join a country team on GraphAcademy, complete courses to earn points for their team, and compete on a live leaderboard. Prizes are given away every round.
How do I join?
- Create a free account at GraphAcademy (if you don’t already have one).
- Head to the Teams page and search for your country.
- Join the team on GraphAcademy — teams use the format
country-{cc}, for examplecountry-gbfor Great Britain orcountry-usfor the United States. - Start completing courses — your points count immediately.
What if my country doesn’t have a team?
You can create one. On GraphAcademy, create a team using the format country-{cc} where {cc} is your two-letter country code. Once you’ve created it, it will appear on the GraphAcademy Cup leaderboard as soon as you earn your first points.
Can I join any country team, or does it have to be my own country?
You can join any team you like. There’s no verification of nationality.
How do points work?
Every course you complete on GraphAcademy earns points for your team. Points are attributed to whichever team you’re a member of at the time of completion. Points accumulate across all six rounds toward an overall tournament total, and are also tracked per round for the weekly leaderboard.
How are points scored?
Points are tied to how much of a course you complete — there’s no quiz to game, you simply learn:
- Standard course: up to 10 points, earned in proportion to the lessons you complete. Finish half the lessons and you bank half the points; complete it and you bank all 10.
- Workshop: up to 30 points, earned the same way — workshops are the hands-on courses in the workshops category.
- Certification: up to 50 points, again proportional to your progress.
Your round points count only the lessons you complete within that round’s dates, so every round is a fresh race. Your overall total adds up everything you’ve earned across the whole tournament. A team’s score is simply the sum of its members’ points.
Do I need a public profile to participate?
No. You can keep your profile private and still compete and win prizes. Public profiles appear on the team leaderboard so others can see your progress. Private profiles don’t appear on the leaderboard, but you’re still fully eligible for every prize.
What are the rounds?
The competition runs in six rounds:
| Round | Dates |
|---|---|
| Group Stage Week 1 | June 1–17, 2026 |
| Group Stage Week 2 | June 18–24, 2026 |
| Group Stage Week 3 | June 25–July 1, 2026 |
| Round of 32 | July 2–8, 2026 |
| Round of 16 | July 9–15, 2026 |
| Quarterfinals & Beyond | July 16–19, 2026 |
What prizes can I win?
Aura credits (every round) — 50 winners per round receive Neo4j Aura credits. To be eligible, complete at least one course during that round. Winners are drawn at random from all eligible participants across all teams.
Lego sets (community prizes, every round) — post a project or write-up about something you’ve built or learned on the GraphAcademy community site during a round and you’re entered into a random draw for Lego sets. No course completion required — just post your work.
Lego World Cup trophy (tournament finale) — at the end of the tournament, the highest points scorer on the winning team receives the Lego World Cup trophy. If two or more participants are tied on points, the winner is selected at random from those tied.
How are winners selected?
Aura credit winners are drawn at random from all eligible participants for that round. Community Lego winners are drawn at random from all community posts made during that round. All draws are conducted by the GraphAcademy team.
How will I know if I’ve won?
Aura credit winners are contacted by email at the address registered to their GraphAcademy account within two days of the round closing. Community Lego prize winners are contacted by direct message on the GraphAcademy community site. All winners are also announced in a post on the GraphAcademy blog and community site.
How long do I have to claim my prize?
You have 14 days from the date of your winner notification to respond and claim your prize. If we don’t hear back within 14 days, the prize may be redrawn.
Can I win more than once?
You can win Aura credits in more than one round, but you can receive a maximum of two rounds of Aura credits per tournament. You can only win one physical Lego prize per tournament (community prizes and the finale trophy combined).
What data do you collect if I win a physical prize?
If you win a Lego set or the tournament trophy, we’ll ask for a postal address to send it to. This information is used solely to fulfil your prize and will not be retained after the tournament ends on July 19, 2026.
Your GraphAcademy account information — including your enrolment history — is held in accordance with Neo4j’s standard account terms. To delete your GraphAcademy account, email accounts@neo4j.com.
Which countries are ineligible for prizes?
Due to international trade sanctions, we’re unable to ship physical prizes or award Aura credits to participants in the following countries and regions: Cuba, Iran, North Korea (DPRK), Syria, and the occupied Ukrainian regions of Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk. Participants in these regions can still join teams and compete on the leaderboard.
What courses count toward points?
All courses on GraphAcademy count toward your points total. New courses published during the tournament period count from the date they’re published.
